Just a quick(and pretty pointless)vid from a soundcheck in the main room(The Box)at Ministry, anyone whos ever been down here will know the sound system is actually a madness. At one point during the actual event, I was looking at the mixer and it was blurry, I thought my contacts had fallen out then I touched it and clocked the entire main room was vibrating cos of the bass...

Oh yeah should have some footage of the event at somepoint, the day ended with a b2b session with Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown which was pretty sick...

Finally got "F.T.W" wrapped up so that should be out pretty soon, I know a couple people have been hunting "Dagger Dagger" for a while so you'll be able to get your hands on a crisp copy of it pretty soon.

With more artists from this small scene enjoying commercial success exploring new styles, it's great to see new Grime producers going back and drawing influences from the early days of the scene.

Royal T is a producer and current champion of this sound, meticulously blending his own take on Grime with influences from 2 step, UK garage, retro games and others to great effect. This is why he is one of my favourite producers at the moment and definitely someone to look out for in the future.

I shouldn’t really have to point out how important it is to have these independent record labels putting out good grime music, but start ups such as Pitch Controllers, Butterz, Oil Gang Records, and many more, are breathing new life into the Grime scene.

So for that reason I had a chat with Simon from Oil Gang to find out about his upcoming releases, what to expect next, and the future of the label.

#DASAPAR/DASAGAS. Translation: What were they thinking?(Part 2)

You know when you're listening to your favorite Grime MC, and they say something that doesn't make sense or you don't understand...(this applies to every spoken genre to be honest, and of course Wocka Flocka Flame is in a category of his own). Unless it's a case of you just not knowing the latest slang, the chances are, you either misheard or what you don't understand ACTUALLY doesn't make sense. It's not even rare for MC's to just make up words that miraculously rhyme, So Solids Neutrino was in fact the undisputed KING of this. Now I'm not about to give you a glossary of slang like this terrible article, but just wanted to highlight a few more things MC's have said in and out of song that have led people to go "eh/huh/wah" etc.

First off - Flirta D... I dont understand why people say they don't understand what he's saying, if you watch this video, and read the highest rated comment which is a pretty accurate transcript of the noise he makes, you realise your not meant to understand it, it just sounds good. However his legendary Forward 2 8 bar(0.41 seconds in), isn't actually just noise, the first part is him saying he's bad to the bone. Yeah you never noticed that before did you?

Oh yeah side note, I'm of part Jamaican heritage, and I don't understand a word Knowledge from Fire Camp says. Someone please identify which language he's spitting in.

Since that last post a lot more hilarious sayings have come out of the eccentric genius, that is Wiley as well. A man who responded to the false rumours of his death with something along the lines of... "I've heard rumours of me being dead before, but this time it felt like it was actually real".

Now I'm not sure if he just failed to word the statement correctly but this literally conjured up images of him hearing the rumors, and having to get someone to check his pulse to see if he was still alive. Oh yeah make sure you follow him on twitter, and watch the Ustream's when you can, hours of entertainment right there.

That reminds me certain people need to log out of twitter and never log back in, I can guarantee once a week around 2am, the same users will have an emotional breakdown, which results in them tweeting things they never should. I'm not gonna start giving examples, cos its pretty personal stuff, but you probably already know the same select few I'm talking about.

Anyway now I've sort of sorted out life after uni, I'll be on here a lot more so keep looking out for the regular, hungover, trivia and sometimes just rambling based updates...

These days my inbox is littered with press releases and stuff that pr's have sent to me obviously not knowing or caring who I am. (Just so you know I'm usually of the 140bpm persuasion.) So I tend to ignore names I dont recognise...(don't judge me, everyone does it). Big Mistake though.

Heres the first video from a rapper called "Dels". He's signed to the same label as Jammer (Big Dada), and this tune is just mucky. Beat is dirt, lyrics are nice, and the vids pretty good. Got a really nice remix of it as well, but not sure if I'm allowed to share that with you guys yet.

AYO, Yeah I've been neglecting this blog a little bit, but it's only because there's a whole heap of other stuff in the pipeline. Now that I have no more lectures or seminars to attend I've realised there's a lot of stuff I need to start doing.

Anyway first things first, I'm still trying to sort out my next EP release(digital download & CD), 8 tracks, bass heavy, and all a bit nuts. If you havent already , go download my free promo's, The Excess EP & The Over Excess EP, or in a few weeks your gonna be able to pick up a free CD copy of them in your local recordshop/wherever else I can dump a couple. (Both will be on one CD, mastered and with a pro mixdown)

Seeing as I'm done with Uni, and am now back in London all day every day, I had to say bye to my show on CSR as well. The last show was nuts, a 3 hour special of just my percy ingles, and I still gotta shout everyone who was involved on the email/twitter/forum/blogs/whatever.

Oh yeah I'm not looking to get a slot on another station anytime soon, I wanna concentrate on bookings and building up a new catalog of my tunes, but you'll catch me doing guest sets here and there. This Sunday you can catch me alongside Slackk, Oil Gang, and Mr Mitch on Sub FM, should be effed.

Also last Saturday I attended the "Jahmanji" launch party, Camera in hand to bring you some footage, but like an idiot I forgot to take any batteries. So enjoy this short dark mopile phone clip of Jam performing Back to the 90's. It was too hype.

The Creators Project is a network dedicated specifically to the celebration of creativity across all forms of media, all around the world. Basically if your like me, and always curious about how stuff and especially artists work behind the scenes, then you definetely need to have a look at it.

They've got an interview forthcoming with Tinchy Stryder(who just partnered up with Jay-Z WOW), which I'm really looking forward to. It's nuts to think how a few years ago I was seeing this guy perform at underground Grime raves, and now he's got super star status.

Anyway for now, again make sure you check out the site, there are a lot of pretty informative interviews on there, newest being the one above, from Mark Ronson.

Oh yeah look out for the other creatives, soon to make an appearance on there.

Anyway I wasnt at radio last night cos I was rounding up a crazy week of celebration, cos today(yes today right now) is my birthday. Im well aware no one cares though cah lets face it only time i care about someone elses birthday is when their giving me an excuse to get drunk.

So everyones heading back home after the mash up, cos its the day of rest and that, and im fully reclined right now, but this occasion plus the fact that my music pc(rip) died a few days ago with every flp reason and cubase file ive ever made, means im gonna be starting afresh as a beatmaker. It’s actually Christmas day, which can only mean one thing…the biggest dinner ever, but lets not forget that this means the year is quickly drawing to a close. You already know what this means, numerous lists of ones to watch that will probably never be heard from again, and people you don’t know screaming, “2010 is gonna be my year fam”. Sure it is.

The fact is with the current state of the music industry as a whole, Grime as the music we love has also slighty suffered. This is just because of the decline of industry as a whole, it has nothing to do with the artists who are constantly churning out great music, the DJ’s who provide great live and radio sets, or the producers providing the backbone to the whole thing. They work hard, and it is obvious if you want to acheive any thing out of this hobby your gonna have to work harder. Anyway 2009 has been a year to celebrate, so much has been done, and we just wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the stuff. There have been a lot of free downloads/twitter giveaways/forum exclusives/secret downloads etc that people missed out on, so we want to give you this…

This was a mad one, I showed up on a hype, wanting to do nothing but mix so I decided yeh I'll try and play bare tunes in one show(them spyro marathons there), the benchmark I set myself was 60 tunes(didnt want to say a crazy number i couldnt reach tbh). Thinking that was alot. I didnt realise I average about 50 tunes a show anyway. But the funny thing is I was so busy mixing through the show I had no idea how many tunes id actuallly played. (Thats why I keep gassing about 60 tunes lol) Turns out I played 95. Look at the tracklist. Yes 95. Almost a 100. in 120 minutes. Now I know why I had some next headache afterwards. Enjoy. It's been a good month for gassing tbh. A very good month, first off we had Chippy threatening to commit suicide on twitter, and um then certain blogs/twitters started appearing with the sole intention of anonymously sending for the artists that had probably previously parred said internet personality. One particular hater is running things at the moment but trust me theres quite a few.

Anyway for the last 4 days ive been locked up trying to catch up with my education deadlines, with only old school sets and redbull for company, this is when I was reminded of certain "questionable" bars/fully gassing bars, that either dont make sense, or just make you wonder what the fuck said artist was thinking. Heres a quick rundown of some of my
favourites.

LOL First of all I wasnt drunk(during the show). My inability to talk was down to only having 3 hours of sleep the previous night before having wake up at 9 for my project proposal/presentation, that morning, then deciding i would stay awake all day so i could fix my sleeping pattern. (I usually go to sleep around 7am and wake up at 4pm, yes, this has actually been my normal sleeping pattern for the last month) just remembered this aint a rambling so heres the audio and the TL will follow soon, I just touched down from a boxfresh press event, and am unsuitably licked atm(not during the show).

Long. I havent had much time to sit down on a thinking tip recently. It isnt just cos ive got a crazy workload at uni, (which im only just starting to realise I have). I decided to make a documentary on grime for my final project. Didnt take into account my own longness, let alone the longness of everyone else in this scene, parred myself nicely.

Anyway Maniac and Snoopy are looking at a long time away, I dont really care about the story, but its a serious waste of talent, and a big shame. The Sun has already jumped on the bandwagon though. Also why do they call ANY black musician, a rapper? Cunts. Ive never heard Chris Brown or Usher spray a 16 in my life yet ive seen them get the rapper treatment as well.

LMAO at some of the shit I see on this channel nowadays. If your new to this thing im obviously talking about Channel AKA.(Why would you change a shit name to an even shitter name btw.) People seem to wonder how a channel with no quality control seems to survive... well its cause channel AKA is simply there to rape the market. Urban artists and consumers alike. Raping them all. From them text chats, to the fake video requests, to the competitions, to the admin fees artists have to pay to get their video on(btw some videos ACTUALLY get rejected and they will still keep your money lol), to the fact they are granted the rights to your music if you choose to submit a video.(You have no choice their gonna be shotting your ringtone for months.) Oh yeah and lets not forget they make the artists waive their right to PPL and VPL payments...

But thats a next thing everyone knows aka is dead. Even the local celebs that used to make a video every 2 weeks just to see their face on sky know its dead. If you watch it for half an hour and dont laugh/cringe at the poor quality of EVERYTHING all the way thru come meet me so i can slap you. Dead.

But who remembers when Channel U, was the TING. When it first started, good/hype/fun music, good quality videos, constant new vids as well(50% involving the same guys tho, shizzle and napper featured on everything) actually interesting stuff. Well 'Us dead now, and has been for some time but you can watch all these videos below and reminisce about the good old days. (I gave up searching for the vids but if theres any you feel NEED mentioning, drop it in the comments and I'll add them when I get back)

I really do, in fact I was about to fall asleep and someone asked when the part two to parring the scene is coming, and i told him to goweh cos really and truly i dont need to write another one,(the first one said it all), but that reminded me how i'd been parring my blog, so i jumped on for a quick little ramble.

I will write more stuff like that, I have to in fact, and youll be able to read it on GF, here, and now the Boxfresh site. Just gimme some time to organise my thoughts, and life.

Is anyone else getting parred by the Student loans company? First they try tell me im no longer at uni and therefore not entitled to a loan(im posting this from halls right now tbh, while researching my final year project), and now i find out theyve been sending all my forms to the wrong address. In Bristol. I have NEVER even been to Bristol. I'd understand if they sent shit to an old address but making a new one up is just a mudting.

It appears this 2 week fresh from the box brand new portable dualcore powerhouse already has e-aids. par. And im not even barebacking the net so im baffed.(bare firewalls and that)

Oh yeah new EP is almost done, I may have to split it into two(but still release them at the same time) might even spotify it this time round. IF you dont already know about my old releases click the covers on the side to find out whats good. Keep checking the soundcloud for glimpses of the new stuff.

Oh yeah hold tight Jack Daniels and Moony. There's a reason youll see them all over the show tracklist when I up it. I've had the stuff theyve been sending me on repeat for a while now. Too much. (I'm gonna do a proper indepth post about the new wave of producers watch).

Very quick one. I've done enough writing for this month. New term starts tommorow, and Ive already jumped in the swing of banging out 2000 word essays. First of which was this interview with the guys down at Boxfresh. talking about music and stuff. (I know its long trust me I wrote it, I'm also the guy that had to delete most of it)

I'm not gonna lie as far as actual writing this is gonna be another quick one, im still exhausted and my head is doing a madness, so take in these pics, watch the video, and pretend I wrote an essay around them. If you live in London, like Grime, and didn't attend a free event with some of the most popular grime artists around today(EVEN AFTER I TOLD YOU TOO), its a par for you.

After a lot of waiting around the night finally kicked off with, Frisco's introduction speech.(that reminds me LOL @ how during the waiting around everyone inside was on twitter)

The Crowd then turned around to watch the Video for Frisco's new Single, "Eyes on you."

Then turned back around to see this.

BBK took to the stage in normal fashion.

Jammer appeared out of nowhere and joined the carnage(as usual). I can't remember how long the set was, but these brief pictures don't do it justice,(Remember I was there for the fun of it tbh). But after the set there was a nice UKFunky set from Funk Butcher, and then Logan SamAkuma arrived...

He put on a serious face, and dropped Grime Bangers. Made the crowd go nuts.

Then he was joined by a few friends, and the night was finished off with a set from JME, P Money, and Blacks.

Hold tight everyone who attended, (except for the random warm up dj's) it was a very good night. I still have more pictures to wade through, and will probably throw a proper write up on GrimeForum in a few days. A Beginners guide to Parring The Grime Scene.

As you may know 2003-2005 was the golden age of grime(apparently), Raves every other day, articles and artist's regularly popping up in your broadsheets and also overseas, DVD's, some of which had pretty much the same content but none the less you bought them all, and all the videos, compilations, and pretty much every bandwagon music journo saying it was gonna be the next big thing, etc.

Anyway fast forward to 2009, funky seems to be the new bandwagon, Bassline has sorta already come and gone(people realised garage was 10x better), and every one seems to think Grime is Dead. Ask your bredrin who used to spend all day shouting Wiley's lyrics, but now spends his days with the goons practising his synchronised skanks to are you gonna bang though. He knows.

It isn't dead btw. Not by a long shot. But anyway seeing as it's no longer cool, as a blogger and "music journo" you need to learn how to par it without actually knowing anything about it. I'm gonna give you some beginner tips that will get GF saying "dasapar" quicker than you can click publish post.

Lets get started:

1.Call Ironik a Grime artist.

This is pretty straight forward. No one with testicles like his music. Also no one with out testicles over the age of 19 likes his music. Therefore everytime you label him as an ambassador for the Grime scene, some Grime fans get quite emotional. The fact that the sweetboy wank music he makes doesnt resemble anything remotely like Grime is just a nice way to twist the knife. Oh yeah to further strengthen your par, you must reference and laugh at the song with Elton John.

2.Call Tinchy Stryder a hip hop rapper.

He has had 2 number ones, a few other chart hits, and has almost topped the album charts. Oh yeah he's also the top selling male Artist of 2009 in the UK. Cannot argue with that. Call him a sellout? Nah that's a school boy error. You will just get directed to the free ep's and songs he made available to his fans before the album dropped. All of the downloads were Grime. There's even Grime on the album. But the par here is easy. Ignorance. Call him a rapper, compare him to Giggs, and 50 cent, this par is pretty self explanatory.

3.Pointout the lack of grime raves.

Ignore Chockablock, Dirty Canvas, Rinse, the oneaway launch nights, Concerts, and all the other new club nights that have now popped up that are headlined by Grime artists. Instead ask why all the old raves aren't running anymore. This is the par of choice for most.

4.Violence at all grime raves.

"Woah I heard one guy stepped on one guys shoe, and then he pushed him, and then he apologised and the guy walked away." To be honest there's not really much trouble at Grime related raves, ask JP or the ravers on GF, I'm not saying all the trouble makers have gone to funky, just saying that Grime doesnt cause trouble. But if your reader isn't a fan of Grime, and has never been to a rave, they wouldnt even know. So you must carry on the tradition of this stereotype par.

5.Say theres no releases.

This par is quite tricky, you have to mention the most popular mixtapes and THEN say but theres no other releases. For example "Besides Skepta and Wiley's albums there was no grime released this year really". Just hope your reader has never heard of Earth 616, No hats no hoods, Eskibeat, BBK, GPP, Little Dee, P money, Revolver, Dollar the dustman, J2K, RSG'S, Goodz, Roll Deep Recordings, and a load of others(I gave up with the list). Cos um they sorta released or are about to release stuff.

6.Say there's no new talent.

Everyones still looking at Wiley and Dizzee as the figure heads. Dizzee himself said he no longer makes Grime, and now he has 3 number ones under his belt. Also ignore the new talent like Axeman, Griminal, IceKid, Marvell, ScruFace, etc. And thats a 3 hit par combo, right there.

7.Say it lost it's hype.

If you want to use this par. Then do not acknowledge Tempa T or it just wont work. He will literally par your par. Reference all the bait hip hop and stuff.

8.Say Wiley doesnt even show up for stuff.

Well he usually doesnt, and he is the godfather of Grime.

9. Reference the Mobo's/Brits/and any other generic urban music award show.

They dont have a grime award, they dont want to give grime artists awards, they dont want to even acknowledge the fact that the majority of their newcomers stem from the Grime Scene. Ignore the fact that none of the award shows are actually credible anymore. It's a par. Partake in the par.

10. Pointout the fact that 1xtra see's no need for a 100% Grime show so it must be dead.

Here's a quick quote from DJ Magic.

"The remit of 1Xtra is to play the best in contemporary black music with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists. The schedule should also offer a bespoke news service, regular discussion programmes and specially commissioned documentaries relevant to the young target audience (15–24 year olds), particularly – although not exclusively – those from ethnic minorities."

Yup. We pay the license fees, yet the station that states "love black music love 1xtra" does not have a fully Grime show. "the best in contemporary black music with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists." Nah that doesnt sound like Grime at all...

Dont mention Kiss 100, Logan Sama, and the fact his grime show gets a ridiculous amount of listeners every week, and this par will be the most powerful of all.

United Underground Saturday the 18th

Saturday the 18th of July saw the Queen Elizabeth hall at the Southbank Centre, invaded by a plethora of young people to attend an event, which was used to raise awareness about how we can actively get involved to help shape a better future, while celebrating unity through Music.

This Event was United Underground. Put together by Riz Ahmed, Crispin Parry the head of British Underground, and Chantelle Fiddy at Ctrl+Alt+Shift.

Upon arrival it became clear that this was not your typical underground event. While all the familiar faces where inside, the atmosphere was one I am not used to. While Bass(supplied by the Urban Nerds sounds system) rumbled through the foundations of the building, I took a quick stroll around the perimeter, and came across these...

They had been painted only hours earlier, with a central theme around corruption, and everyone was voting for their favourite representation. (I couldn't decide between the blue capitalist, or the bunnies, so I slyly voted for both). Other activities included contributing to the fanzine that was made in realtime, sewing(yes sewing), and origami. This was literally meters away from the stage where the Dirty Canvas sound system had now taken over, and Rinse wasted little time in commanding the standing crowd to "Put 'em up".

After Rinse had finished performing, DJ Magic was joined on stage by Dizzle Kid(of Lava Unit), and they kept the crowd lively with a great mix of grime, and garage classics...

Until this guy showed up.
